No.1 Electrical Service is an ASP Level 2 accredited electrical contractor. That means we're authorised to work on the part of your electrical supply that ordinary electricians can't touch: the service line from the street, your point of attachment, your metering and your connection to the network.
Most electricians are licensed to work inside your property only. As soon as a job involves the service mains, the meter connection, or disconnecting and reconnecting supply, they need to bring in a Level 2 ASP. Because we hold both the electrical contractor licence and Level 2 accreditation, you deal with one contractor, one quote and one crew.
We handle the paperwork too. Network-side work is notified to the network operator with a Notification of Service Work, and every job is finished with a Certificate of Compliance for Electrical Work (CCEW), so your connection is legal, safe and documented.

Jobs that need a Level 2 electrician
The quickest test is where the work sits. Anything between the street and your meter is network-side work, and that is Level 2 territory. The most common reasons people end up calling one are:
- A new home, granny flat or duplex that needs its first connection to the street
- A renovation, re-roof or demolition that needs supply disconnected first
- A defect notice from Ausgrid or Endeavour Energy with a deadline on it
- A private power pole that is leaning, rotten or has been hit
- A switchboard or meter box that has to move, or an asbestos meter panel that has to go
- An upgrade from single-phase to three-phase for an EV charger, ducted air conditioning or a workshop
- A solar or battery system that the existing supply cannot carry
- Storm or tree damage to the service line or the point of attachment
- Converting an overhead service to underground
What Level 2 accreditation actually covers
Level 2 accreditation is issued under the NSW Accredited Service Provider scheme. It is separate from an electrical licence and is granted in classes, covering disconnection and reconnection of supply, underground service lines, overhead service lines, and metering and energising. On top of the accreditation, a contractor has to be authorised by each network operator whose area they work in.
That is why it is worth asking two questions rather than one: is the contractor Level 2 accredited, and are they authorised for my network? Most of Sydney is Ausgrid. Western Sydney, the Hills, the Macarthur region and parts of the south-west are Endeavour Energy. We are authorised in both.
How a Level 2 job runs
- You call, or text us photos of the meter box, the switchboard and where the power line meets the building.
- We tell you what the job is, whether an application to the network operator is needed, and give you a written quote.
- Where the network or your electricity retailer has to be involved, we lodge the paperwork and line up the dates.
- We do the work, keeping the time you are without power as short as the job allows.
- We test, reconnect and energise, lodge the Notification of Service Work, and give you a Certificate of Compliance for Electrical Work.
What affects the price
Level 2 work is quoted per job, because two houses in the same street can need very different things. These are the factors that move the price most:
- Overhead or underground, and how far the service runs from the street
- Single-phase or three-phase
- Whether the point of attachment, consumer mains or meter box also has to be replaced to bring the job up to current rules
- Access: slope, trees, a narrow side passage or a shared driveway
- Whether trenching or boring is needed for an underground service
- Whether the network has to schedule its own crew or an outage
One contractor for both sides of the meter
Most Level 2 work is only half the job. A three-phase upgrade needs a new switchboard behind it. A relocated meter box needs the house wiring extended to reach it. A battery needs the supply and the switchboard sorted before it can be commissioned. Because we hold the electrical contractor licence, Level 2 accreditation and solar accreditation together, the same team does all of it, on one quote, and nobody is left waiting for a second contractor to turn up.
If it is an emergency
A wire down, sparking at the point of attachment, a pole that has been hit or anyone receiving a shock is a matter for the network operator first: Ausgrid on 13 13 88 or Endeavour Energy on 131 003, and 000 if there is a fire or someone is hurt. Keep well clear and do not touch anything. Their crew makes the site safe. If they find the damage is on your side of the connection, the repair is Level 2 work, and that is when to call us.
Frequently asked questions
What is a Level 2 ASP?
An Accredited Service Provider (ASP) Level 2 is an electrician accredited under the NSW Government's ASP scheme to work on the low-voltage network that connects your property. Network operators such as Ausgrid and Endeavour Energy only allow accredited Level 2 contractors to do this work.
Do I need a Level 2 electrician or a regular electrician?
If the job is inside your home (power points, lights, switchboard internals, rewiring), a regular licensed electrician is fine. If it involves the service line, the meter, your point of attachment or disconnecting supply from the street, you need a Level 2. We do both, so if you're not sure, just call and we'll tell you.
Will I need to contact Ausgrid or Endeavour Energy myself?
Usually not. We lodge the required notifications and paperwork with the network operator as part of the job, and we let you know if anything needs your signature or a call to your electricity retailer.
How do I check that an electrician really is Level 2 accredited?
Ask for their ASP Level 2 accreditation number and which networks they are authorised in. The NSW Government publishes the register of accredited service providers, and Ausgrid and Endeavour Energy each list the contractors authorised in their area. Ours is ASP Level 2 No. 2360.
How long will my power be off?
It depends on the job. A simple disconnect and reconnect is usually done within the day. A service line replacement or a meter box relocation is normally a planned outage of several hours. We tell you the expected time off supply before you book, so you can plan around it.
Can a Level 2 electrician also do the work inside my house?
Only if they also hold an electrical contractor licence, which we do. That is the main reason to use one contractor for the whole job: the switchboard, the wiring and the network side are quoted, done and certified together.
