What you can claim

Four incentives, and how they stack in NSW

Most of a solar and battery quote is decided by what you qualify for. Here is the plain version, with no made-up numbers. We work out the exact figures for your system and put them on the quote.

Federal solar discount (STCs)

Small-scale Technology Certificates come off the upfront price of an eligible solar system. The value depends on system size and falls each year until the scheme ends in 2030.

Cheaper Home Batteries discount

The federal battery discount is also delivered through certificates, based on your battery’s usable capacity. Batteries from 5 kWh to 100 kWh are eligible, support is weighted towards the first 14 kWh, and the rate steps down twice a year. It has been sitting near 30 per cent of the upfront cost.

NSW virtual power plant incentive

A one-off NSW payment for connecting an eligible battery to an approved virtual power plant. The amount depends on your usable capacity and your VPP provider, and since July 2026 you no longer need solar to qualify.

NSW Home Energy Saver loan

Interest-free loans of up to $15,000 for eligible owner-occupiers and landlords, repayable over ten years, for energy upgrades including solar and batteries. Income limits apply.

We are accredited with Solar Accreditation Australia, so eligible systems have the certificate discounts applied at the point of sale and we handle the paperwork. Read the detail in our NSW solar and battery rebate guide.

The difference

Solar installed by electricians, not salespeople

A solar install is roof work, DC wiring, a switchboard and a grid connection. All four are electrical trade work, and three of them are where cheap installs go wrong.

We have been doing Sydney electrical work since 2010, and we hold Level 2 accreditation, so the supply side of your install is handled by us too: a switchboard that can take the new load, consumer mains that are up to it, export metering, or a three-phase upgrade. No subcontractors, no waiting.

How we work
  • Design before priceRoof, shading and a look at your bill, then a system size that fits.
  • Switchboard work includedIf your board needs upgrading for solar, we do it on the same job.
  • Metering and connectionExport metering and network approvals done in-house under ASP No. 2360.
  • Service, not just supplyWe repair and maintain systems for years afterwards, including ones we did not install.

Why it matters

One licensed contractor for both sides of the meter

Most electricians can only work inside your property. As a Level 2 Accredited Service Provider we also work on the network side. That means one quote and one crew, instead of waiting on a second contractor.

Inside your property

Any licensed electrician can do this work. So can we.

  • Power points, switches and lighting
  • Switchboard internals and safety switches
  • Rewiring, renovations and extensions
  • Ceiling fans, smoke alarms, EV chargers
  • Fault finding and repairs

Network side: Level 2 only

Only an accredited Level 2 ASP may do this work. We are accredited, ASP No. 2360.

  • Service line from the street (overhead or underground)
  • Point of attachment and consumer mains
  • Meter installation, upgrades and relocation
  • Disconnection, reconnection and energising
  • Private power poles and defect notices

Our promise

What you can expect from us on every job

The standards Jimmy Zhou set in 2010 still apply to every job, from a single power point to a new three-phase connection.

Our story
  • Price agreed before we start

A clear quote first. If we find something unexpected on site, we explain it and you decide before any extra work.

  • We call if we are running late

Your time matters. You will know when we are coming and if anything changes.

  • Certified, every time

Every job is tested and finished with a Certificate of Compliance for Electrical Work. Network paperwork lodged for you.

  • We leave it clean

Drop sheets down, offcuts removed, and the switchboard clearly labelled before we go.

Our story

Family owned and run in Sydney since 2010

No.1 Electrical Service was founded in 2010 by Jimmy Zhou, a licensed electrician and Level 2 Accredited Service Provider who built the business one job at a time across Sydney's south and inner west.

Still family owned, still answering our own phone, and now SAA accredited for solar and battery storage, which has become the biggest part of what customers ask for.

Common questions

Answers before you call

What does a solar and battery system cost?

It depends on system size, your roof, the equipment you choose and whether your switchboard needs work, so we quote in writing after a site check. What we always do is show the price with the federal and NSW incentives already deducted, so you can see what you actually pay rather than a headline figure.

Is a home battery worth it now?

For a lot of Sydney homes, yes. The federal battery discount has taken roughly a third off the upfront cost, and there is a separate NSW payment for joining a virtual power plant. It works best if you use a decent amount of power after dark or charge an EV. We will show you the payback for your own usage and tell you if it doesn't stack up.

Do you service my area?

We're based in Sydney's south and work across the St George area, Inner West, Canterbury-Bankstown, the Sutherland Shire and greater Sydney, in both the Ausgrid and Endeavour Energy network areas. If you're not sure, call us and we'll tell you straight away.

What is a Level 2 electrician, and do I need one?

A Level 2 Accredited Service Provider (ASP) is authorised to work on the network side of your supply: the service line from the street, your point of attachment, metering, and disconnecting or reconnecting power. A regular electrician can't do that work. If your job involves any of those things, you need a Level 2. We're both, so one call covers it.

Do you do small jobs?

Yes. A single power point, a faulty light, a safety switch or a smoke alarm are all welcome. Many of our long-term customers started with a small job.

Will I get a compliance certificate?

Yes. A Certificate of Compliance for Electrical Work (CCEW) is issued for every job, as required in NSW. For network-side work we also lodge the notification with the network operator on your behalf.

Do you speak Chinese?

Yes. We can help you in English or Chinese (中文). Just let us know which you prefer when you call.
